Grand Traverse Bay and "Other Water"

Joe C enjoying the hard fighting smallmouth action.

Lakes, bays, and harbors are all fishing really well right now. If your into chasing big great lakes smallmouth, post spawn pike, and inland lake panfish. Water temps are perfect right now and fish are very aggresively taking flies. With most shoreline fishing situations 1'-15' of water being the key, lake fish are either staging for the spawn (panfish, largemouth, and smallmouth bass) or are eagerly putting on the pounds after the spawn (pike & muskie).

Finding the first growth of weeds is a great place to start, as baitfish are trying to hide, and predators are eager to chomp on small baitfish patterns. Topwater is also getting noticed as mayflies and dragonflies are starting to emerge, and the panfish and small largemouth are looking up to take small poppers. Great way to practice distance casting and sneaking your fly into tight places.
